EDUCATION

I believe that having a great public education system should be a high priority for all of us.  Here are a few things I believe the legislature can do to make the school system better:

  • Encourage a system where parents know what is being taught to their children and have good alternatives available so they can help find what works best for their own family.

  • Be mindful of, and seek to reduce, the administrative burden that bureaucracy places upon our teachers.

  • Strive to make sure that the career of being a teacher pays enough and is attractive enough that we can attract and retain a talented teacher workforce.

 

I have organized an in-person visit to a school in my district at least once a year for every year I have been in office to make sure I am hearing from those on the front lines.

Lowering Taxes for Utah:

A Record of Fiscal Responsibility

Over the past four years, I have been a steadfast advocate for lowering taxes, contributing to Utah's economic resilience during the challenges of the pandemic. Here are some key highlights of my commitment to fostering a tax-friendly environment:

  • Consistent Support for Income Tax Reduction: I am proud to have supported income tax reductions for four consecutive years, recognizing the positive impact on both businesses and individuals.

  • Championing Utah's Largest Tax Cut: Last year, I played a crucial role in supporting and passing the largest tax cut in Utah's history. This landmark decision was aimed at stimulating economic growth and ensuring financial relief for our residents.

  • $1 Billion in Tax Cuts: Over the past four years, my advocacy has contributed to a total of $1 billion in tax cuts, demonstrating a commitment to promoting fiscal responsibility and putting money back into the pockets of Utahns.

  • Relief for Social Security Taxes: I have actively worked towards reducing taxes on social security, recognizing the importance of supporting our seniors and ensuring their financial well-being.

  • Property Tax Relief Initiatives: I have been instrumental in implementing measures such as the circuit breaker and deferral for those without income, providing much-needed relief on property taxes. This ensures that payment is deferred until the point of property sale, alleviating the burden on those facing financial challenges.

My dedication to lowering taxes is rooted in the belief that a thriving economy begins with responsible fiscal policies. I am committed to fostering an environment where businesses can flourish, individuals can thrive, and Utah remains a beacon of economic success.

WATER

CONSERVATION

Making changes to our water usage habits and to our water usage laws is a top priority.  We have now had several years in a row of lower than average snowfall during the winter and our reservoirs are at their lowest levels in many years.  If we have a hot, dry summer, the water level at Glen Canyon Dam might stop producing power at the end of the summer for the first time since the lake filled up.  I am proud of the work that the legislature did in the 2022 session to allow for more sensible usage of water and to increase the amount that can ultimately flow downstream so that we can retain the Great Salt Lake.  I have worked hard to find ways that our local irrigation district can find ways to fund the installation of secondary water meters with a minimum of cost to the end users.

My commitment to improving healthcare extends beyond traditional measures—it involves a fundamental shift towards empowering individuals with the autonomy to manage their health information. By putting the patient back in control, we can create a healthcare system that truly values individual choice, transparency, and the overall well-being of our community.

This means individuals have the right to access, control, and share their medical information as they see fit, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility over one's health.

In advocating for the sanctity of life, I am proud to have taken significant steps to support pro-life initiatives. Here are the key aspects that highlight my commitment to protecting the unborn:

  • Trigger Law Advocacy: I stand firmly behind the Trigger Law, a crucial piece of legislation that blocks abortion in specific circumstances. This law serves as a protective measure for the unborn, aligning with my unwavering commitment to the pro-life cause.

  • Support for Pro-Life Programs: Recognizing the importance of comprehensive support, I have actively endorsed and advocated for funding for pro-life programs. These programs play a vital role in providing resources, education, and assistance to individuals facing unplanned pregnancies, fostering a culture that values and protects every life.

My dedication to the pro-life movement goes beyond rhetoric—I have actively worked to enact policies that safeguard the rights of the unborn and support programs that contribute to a culture of life. It is my firm belief that protecting and cherishing every life is not just a political stance but a moral imperative, and I will continue to champion these values to ensure a future where the sanctity of life is revered and protected.
